SEER

SEER is the hybridization of old school table top gaming with the tarot divination system.  It is a complete TTRPG in itself, but has many rules within it for you to hack into your own role playing game.  What began as a "what if" of wanting to use cards instead of dice turned into  a merging of the two,  a new game and a new deck.  

The Deck: The Emerald Tarot is what happened when I started really looking into the mechanics of divinatory decks. I found that it was impossible to balance a regular (Rider-Waite-Smith) tarot deck in a way that could replace dice appropriately. When I looked into why it was unbalanced I found a systemic issue with the philosophy of popular tarot.  So I developed a new way to structure all the same cards in a way that not only balances them as a dice tool, but also have them make a bit more sense, at least to me. I'm not rying to make any converts here, but take a gander at my Etsy page if you would like a deck of your own. The Emerald Tarot is not necessary for playing SEER (you can use your own tarot deck or dice), but for full  immersion and ease of use I do highly recoment it.

The Game: SEER successfully takes what you want from an OSR and adds tarot machanics which easily fit with your favorite modules. Card draws replace all dice rolling as well as facilitate with drawing from thematic random tables. From a game dev point of view I encountered difficulties in simulating each die in the chain, but I ended up turning that into SEER's strength. The number of the card simulates a d20 while the suit of the card becomes a revolutionary scaling d4 system. You'll have to download it to see more!
